Here's a few I'd be interesting in going to, with links to the abstracts.
Monday March 4, 9AM: Risk and Reward in Mining Exploration and Development
- Roddy Eggert, Colorado School of Mines: An economist's perspective.
- Chris Hinde and Glen Jones, Intierra: An industry at risk (wooo!).
Monday March 4, 9AM: Capex and low grades
- Richard Bullock, Missouri U: Mine feasibility methods still need correction.
- Frederick "Frank" Earnest, Vista Gold: The Mt. Todd project, a case study.
- Jay Collins, Merit Consultants: CAPEX calamities: where do we go from here?
- Michael Gareau: What makes or breaks a low-grade deposit.
Tuesday March 5, 9AM: Financing in a volatile market
- Eric Fier, Silvercrest: Santa Elena mine, how to be on time and under budget (in your face!!)
- Nolan Watson, Sandstorm: Commodity streaming, alternative financing options in an uncertain market.
- John Nyholt, Pricewater Housepoopers: Metals and mining M&A: the sale is on but nobody's buying.
I guess I could treat it like an educational thing, no? Spend $800 and learn a hell of a lot more than I'd ever get out of newsletter subscriptions and reading Stockhouse.
Speaking of newsletters, are there any must haves with respect to the mining industry? Kaiser? Cookie? JOJO?? I subscribe to Otto off and on but that's it.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, except IKN is great for Latin American news and producers, and Jojo is actually pretty good for teaching you discipline in taking a position.
DeleteFrankly I don't think cookie or Kaiser are worth the money.
Thanks. Maybe I'll give JoJo a spin.
DeleteOtto is good, Jojo is decent, Cook is good but he is too expensive. Other than that I don't see much value in the market. Which means that there's a lot to avoid out there IMHO.
DeleteKeith Schaefer is good if you like stuff like oil and gas.
And to think I'd never have found Otto if it wasn't for googling Century Mining....
DeleteFunny. I found your blog through Otto and your writing on Jojo made me sign up for a subscription. So I think it's fair to say that he owns you a beer.
DeleteThe Nolan Watson presentation will probably have the same content as this : "Why Mine Finance as You Know it is Dead" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQSRY69RiD0
ReplyDeleteInteresting presentation, even though it's also a sales pitch.
Why haven't I heard of JOJO? Link?
ReplyDeleteYou are going to Kaiser's free session, no?
Jojo = Jordan Roy-Byrne. http://thedailygold.com/
DeleteHe's just a young guy starting out so he stumbles here and there, and I wish he could cut loose his sponsors and be totally independent, but he impresses me more and more with his TA. Frankly he should also branch out into broader markets and commodities, the goldbug scene is limiting him.
I will probably go see Kaiser, Cookie, and a few other guys in the afternoon as noted in a previous post. I'm presently debating whether or not to sign up as Otto Rock, Incakola News.
Great idea, sign up as Otto and go visit the Liberty Silver booth, have lunch with Lobito, breakfast with the Bhartis and share a cab with West. And report here on the blog.
DeleteBy the way, B2Gold bought CGA so they are active in the Phillipines, but I think BTO's tax set up is different to the one that OGC is operating under, which might be the first of its kind under the new rules over there, me thinks.
You're funny, Henrik. LSL won't have a booth there, and West wasn't invited so he'll probably stay at his Vancouver island cottage.
DeleteOk, say hello to the lads from Credit Suisse from me.
DeleteI confess to having once subbed to HRA (Coffin). I think they are good but I don't pay for tout sheets as a rule nowadays.
